The medieval quarter

 Manchester - trip 3, week 3

Canadian content (Jessie Fleming)

There are 4 sites clustered closely in the medieval quarter of Manchester that Craig visited.

First was the Football Museum - full of displays of (mostly) English football along with lots of artifacts and activities for the kids. The collection is quite extensive, but you'd really want to be an England (and EPL) fan to get the most of it.

Next up was Manchester cathedral. This is exactly what Craig pictures when he thinks of a "medieval cathedral" - smaller than you'd expect but still interesting. It was the first evidence he's ever seen that the place is actually used for worship - because there were tables set up along the side with crayons and pictures for the youngsters to occupy themselves with during a service.

The People's Museum was his next stop. It uses the term "people" in the socialist sense - it is very much an ode to organized labour and universal suffrage. A free museum (for a suggested donation) in keeping with the socialist theme!

Finally he dropped into the Art Gallery - another free attraction! A range of eras but mostly focused on local (or, at least, English) painters, so not many big names but an enjoyable experience nonetheless (there is a Turner, so that was interesting).
